My first free-motion quilted quilt, The Fandango "I Spy" quilt, is ready for hand stitching! Just in time for some football watching, TV sitting time. When I prep for hand stitching the french fold binding, I find it works best to completely iron and safety pin the whole quilt.

Loose Ends...

I opened an "Unfinished Sewing Projects" box. A box, I'm almost embarrassed to say, that was packed two and a half years ago when we moved out to the country.

There are some fun projects in this box: another Friendship Star Quilt all ready for piecing, a very glam "Derrière Bag", a few aprons cut - ready for sewing, and this scarf.

Only needing it's loose ends weaved in, it was the first unfinished project marked off the list. Definitely had Roxie's name written all over it. She liked the idea of it being an "infinity" scarf, so I whipped the ends together and...Ta Da! ~ she was jazzed at the surprise gift.

Looks good on her too, I think.

Homemade Peppermint Lip Balm

My crafty helper, Kaziah, and I tried something new this year -we made peppermint lip balm. After thrifting for our tools and gathering ingredients, we followed SouleMama's recipe.

We managed 2 batches: one tinted and peppermint drenched, the other we dropped the tint and peppermint and simply used a raw cinnamon honey. This was such a quick and rewarding project -and super fun to gift!

Kaziah's No-Sew Christmas

Mason Jar Snow Globles

We made mason jar snow globes this holiday season. I first spied this project on Pinterest -love that place, don't you? These two snowball globes were gifted to a brother and sister. Making these simple globes are addicting, so many creative scenes possible!

Fabric Dyeing with Beets

I wanted to try my hand at dyeing a bit of fabric with our leftover beet harvest. I didn't research well, kinda went into it willy nilly. So I'm not too surprised by the outcome. It didn't work out. Bummer for sure, I had a big Birthday Surprise in mind. Oh well, there's always next year. Using fresh beets are the key, I think. Yep, next year when we pull beets from the garden, I will be better prepared.

Makes for a pretty set of photos though, if you ask me. And just look at that awesome thrifting score! According to Google it's a Large Pyrex Pink Gooseberry Cinderella Nesting Bowl.

New Skill: Free Motion Quilting

I've been practicing a new skill: Free Motion Quilting. And I just have to say, I am just blown away at how much fun this style of quilting is! I began by watching this series of video tutorials. Following her instructions, I used a batting spray adhesive, purchased quilting gloves and ran a few trial runs before beginning my larger project - a lap quilt.

Now if I could just find my way back to my sewing machine, I might actually get my "Homemade Christmas" presents done in time! Ah yes, 'Tis the season for big crafting plans...from snowglobes to candy to quilted table runners. Wanna enjoy every busy moment of it! What's on your Holiday crafting list?

Sunday Morning, Wee Wondlands Quilt

This quilt project was started by my girls this past spring (2011). "Wee Woodlands" by Keiki (Moda) was deemed perfect for the newly purchased (used) camp trailer. The girls started strong, and then became distracted with busy school schedules. Strips of the "coins quilt" sat all summer and into autumn. It drove me nuts! It was so close to sandwiching and quilting. But I had promised not to work on it. The quilt was theirs to piece together, theirs to stitch.

This weekend I really needed some quick crafting time, one of those "sewing for mama's sanity!" times. My wonderfully gracious daughters recognized this and gave me the "go-ahead" to work on their quilt. I enjoyed a whole day of sewing and finished it! The girls are snuggled up under it right now...that's nice.

I machine stitched this whole quilt, including the french fold binding, and was immediately reminded of why I prefer the final binding stitch, hand-done. No Doubt About It.

It was a chilly November morning outside, but the studio was toasty, the sewing machine hummed and my sweet Mr. Finn would play and throw me his fabulous smiles. A perfect Sunday morning, complete with homemade fresh orange-cranberry scones, breakfast sausage and mocha coffee...

This weekend sewing indulgence brought about visions of Christmas sewing! Love a good Handmade Christmas.

I managed to sew something! Two identical harvesting aprons for an apple picking gathering earlier this month. I designed it as I went, with a large pleated pocket, and completed them in a few busy hours -just in time to pick apples and surprise my good friend Meghan.

Although I haven't been at my sewing machine, I have been in the kitchen crafting food and more food from our garden harvest. I have been enjoying it completely...but will admit to be so very happy I finished our many tomatoes last night (or early this morning if you want to get specific!)

Crazy me...can't seem to get all my ducks lined up and something accomplished (besides the day-to-day stuff -don't want you thinking I'm a complete slacker!)...and I already find myself thinking about Halloween costumes...

We have 11 roosters on the farm, with 3 bantam roosters adequately named, "The Three Stooges". Finn likes to chase "The Stooges". My mom mentioned something about Finn being a rooster for Halloween like maybe, 3 hours ago...and my mind is already racing with ideas! Love the inspiration piece I found above at a wholesale shop, but will definitely be leaving Finn's sweet face for showing.

Maybe this will be just the thing to get my creative juices flowing, in more than just my wishful thinking!

Tasks Take Over...

Have you ever eaten Nasturtium blossoms? Throw some on your salad for a punch of color and an almost sweet and spicy tang explosion in your mouth

I have yet to indulge in that late night sewing I promised myself a week ago. But, the good news is that I crossed a few things off my list, small tasks perhaps -but they are crossed off just the same...and that is a good thing.

Now we are preparing for the new school year, a hectic harvesting time in our garden (why I have blossoms instead of crafting photos shared above) and a work load I can't seem to keep up with. Sounds to me like now may be the best time to "take five" and busy my hands with the new quilt I have set my heart on. The one that will be perfect for some afternoon fall snuggling and book reading with my little Mr. Finn while the older girls are at school.

I would have to say that time, the book reading-snuggle down-nap taking time, is a favorite. Has been with all four of my babes. It's gone so fast...Yes, it is past time to start that quilt.

Just Stay Focused

Having a really hard time staying focused today...err, this month...or maybe even this summer! So much to do and school is right around the corner. All I want to do is plunge head first into a new quilt!

I use sewing as a reward for getting my real chores done. But it has been so long since I have given myself the indulgence that I am feeling the self neglect. I most definitely use sewing as a crutch, it keeps me sane, it is my outlet for decompressing. But what if I don't take the time to decompress because the self-imposed commitments are not complete?

Do you see where I am going with this?

Yes, I may need to call halt to all else and simply sew for the well-being of self and all else around me. I already have the jelly roll staring at me from across my desk, and the quilt design chosen....think I will plan a night of "sewing for mama's sanity" tonight. Yes, yes indeed. I'll keep you posted.

Its all a great balancing act. It seems some people never flail. Of course, that is an illusion. We are all trying to find our balance. In self, family, marriage, work...you name it -it needs to be balanced. This is something I can usually find, the balance. Right now though, at this moment in my life, I am feeling dizzy, sort of light-headed...just trying to keep my eyes straight and in focus. I keep telling myself that out of the chaos, I will find my balance and we will be all the more graceful. I say we because I am the mama and everything I do touches the rest of my family. And that right there gives me the inspiration I need to move forward.

I started this baby quilt for a friend the end of January. She was due to have a baby girl and was diggin' on the yellows and greys. At that time, I already had costumes on my mind, so opted for the somewhat easier approach of a sweet Moda "Charm Pack". White Minky for the backing made for a light weight quilt with lots of snuggle potential.

Ballet Costume 2011, "Creation Calls"

The ballet this year is quite stunning. The white tutu leotards were purchased and a talented dance mama hot glued all 30+ white sequin embellishments. I hand-stitched Ausha's sequins to the leotard while she was wearing it. This took much more time than I anticipated.

Such a beautiful dancer my Ausha is. Her strength and graceful stage personae never fails to take my breath away.

Dance Costumes 2011, "Ballroom Blitz"

"Ballroom Blitz!" This dance production is one of my all-time favorites! Each dancer was responsible for her own silver and black costume. Throughout the production, as the music changed to represent different eras, the dancers would layer a new costume piece to match (this would happen behind a screen on stage). I accepted the task of sewing 12 "Saturday Night Fever" jackets and 12 "Walk like an Egyptian" skirts.

My mom stepped in and helped by making a set of lapels for each jacket. HUGE time saver for me -Thanks mom!

Instead of sewing the jackets completely from scratch, I found just enough white sweatshirts on the clearance racks around town, ranging $1.99 to $2.49 a piece -not bad I say! It took me a few times of ripping out seams, but I finally figured out the right placement of the black collar and best way to enhance the lapel.

The coin wrap skirts were a breeze and proved a nice break from straining my brain over the jackets.

And then we get to my two sweet dancers and their personalized silver and black costumes. I really wanted sew something fabulous, something totally different than what other girls may come up with. I was low on time (last day before dance competition actually), but we were all happy the end result.

(not shared are the awesome silver "Hammer" pants another dancing mama made for Ausha's class -so fun!)

I am happy to have that huge sewing project behind me. I am not so sure of how involved in costume sewing I will be next dance season. Sewing individual costumes for my girls is do-able. However, trying to keep a family running, stay up with the farm, work my day job AND sew multiple costume sets? Well, the time required to accomplish it all simply isn't there. We as a family, can not afford the time it consumes. Famous last words? We'll see...

Dance Costumes 2011, "Pinocchio's Boogie"

What a busy run of costume sewing this spring has been! With all the last minute costume needs, I was so grateful I had already finished the bulk of "Pinocchio's Boogie"(Elvis Presley) .

This dance costume set was for Roxie's tap class: eight 6-8 yr olds. I assembled the red shorts with blue trim and red sequin waist band, as well as the white satin collars with blue bow and red sequin detail. Another dance mama painted and put the finishing touches on the yellow hats. The girls used elastic bands as props, giving the idea of puppet strings.

This sweet little quilt was sewn for a friend's new baby boy, Sawyer. Sticking with the simplicity of the charm pack, I picked up three Pure (Sweetwater) packs and weeded out the charms adorned with hearts. I used minky for the backing and am loving the weight it lends a little quilt like this.

Gathered Clutch times Five

I used Noodleheads's "Gathered Clutch" tutorial as an introduction to installing zippers. I was determined to get over this silly zipper fear. I mean really, how hard could it be? It took me five tries to get three clutches worthy of Christmas giving. Not too bad.

Half-Eaten GingerBread Men Mania!

When I spied these fabulous Half-Eaten-Gingerbread Men on Elsie Marley, I knew right then I had to make some. Eight men and one gingerbread lady later, I stopped. Such fun! We spread the gingerpeople love with dance teachers, cousins and friends. I made Finn's with blue piping and stuffed it. Many of the others I did not stuff. The girls were responsible for making their own ornament...this called for another sewing club!

The girls, and their mamas, enjoyed each others company and the holiday crafting.

I took this pattern one step further and created Finn his own "Gingi" softie! I started by hitting up the 2nd hand store and finding the perfect rattle/squeaker doll. We lucked out and found one with the wrinkle wrap too! Our Gingi now has a squeaker in his belly, a rattle in his head and winkle wrap in his legs. The mouth, eyes, and buttons are felt and hand sewn.

This softie was so much fun to put together. And much to my delight - Finn reaches for it often.

Christmas Sewing 2010: Koala Pillow

This pillow was destined for my little nephew, Axil. I had an 'aha' moment one afternoon as I was weeding out some of Finn's outgrown clothes. This shirt was one of my favorites and the koala design was perfect. You see, Axil's mum is from Australia...and she just so happens to call him her "Little Koala".

Using a projector, I traced the image outline on iron-on fuse (paper side). After cutting out the design, the raw edge applique was fused on and then all hand stitched. Once the top was completely stitched, I protected the hand stitching by fusing and then stitching stabilizer to the back of the pillow top. I finished assembling the pillow with a simple envelope design.

I was going for as many textures as possible and am quite happy with the way it turned out - always a plus!

Pillows were on the list for two of my nephews this past Christmas season. Check out the cool shark pillow my nephew Zade received. (0f course, Finn found one under the tree too!)

Make Life Simple Quilt

More progress on the Birthday Surprise Quilt...I wish I could say I actually finished in time for the Birthday. Oh it was still wrapped and gifted, yes. But it also came back home with me. All it needed was binding - which I still have yet to cut. I did bust a move on my Christmas Sewing projects though. Lots of show and telling to do!

I feel I am falling behind. I blame two nasty colds that kinda piggy-backed each other since the week of Christmas. Couple that with a baby who also decided a cough may be fun to share...and I think you can pretty much guess where I have been hanging the last few weeks. Yup, when the baby sleeps, I try to sleep. I haven't even had the energy to roll out one of my late night/early morning sewing sessions. This is getting me down. My body hurts from coughing. Its a new year and I haven't the strength to fully embrace it. Am I being dramatic? Perhaps so.

I am determined this weekend will be productive in the sewing room (and the laundry room - but who wants to talk about that?). I have done some great blog surfing and feel so inspired! There are so many amazing Crafty bloggers out there. Just a little taste of the goodness I have stumbled upon lately: Stitched in Color and Urban Patchwork.

Here's to hoping I get more than just the sewing room back in shape after the Holiday...I wanna sew!

A little gathering of friends was had...we explored the art of raw edge appliqué and pillow making. The girls designed their pillow tops, searched for the perfect fabric in my scrap bin, and then drew, cut, and ironed their way to Pillow Making 101. Hand-stitching the design became homework. Our next "Sewing Club" will have us assembling the girl's finished pillow tops and back panel. What a blessing to have such beautiful young women interested in the art of handcraft.

I machine stitched Roxie's appliqué for her, making her's the first completed pillow. That made her happy.This was the first time I made an envelope style pillow case. Now I can't believe I haven't done so before! It was just so simple.

Christmas Sewing 2010: Sharks are Cool!

In my effort to keep Christmas giving as handmade and simple as possible, I whipped these cool pillows out in an evenings time. I used the shark image I happened across in a catalog, a projector and iron-on fuse, making the transfer oh so easy. After the shark was ironed in position, I used my machine for a simple raw edge appliqué (being sure to place the white teeth under the shark body first). I then hand stitched the black felt eye and teeth. Once the shark appliqué is complete, its time to assemble the envelope style pillow.

I did it! I made NoodleHead's Gathered Clutch! Yes, I am excited. This was my first zipper install, and now I am ready to start the three clutches I have on my Christmas gift sewing list. Thank you NoodleHead!

That Mending Pile...

I spoke of a mending pile a while back, something about needing to tackle it before I could move on to more exciting sewing ventures. Gosh, that was back on November 1st! The mending pile was tackled and conquered and although I have been absent from this space, I have not been absent from my sewing room. Quite the opposite really. So here we go, a start to playing catch up with my craft blog...

A mend that works, so long as the hole needing mending is not too far up on the pant leg -making it difficult/impossible to get my machine in location.

I started by trimming the hole of all the strings/frays and then iron-on fused the patch panel to the inside of the pant leg. I then carefully wrangled my sewing machine into the pant leg and stitched back and forth until the entire patch was stitched. I love Fray-check and tend to use it as a precaution against re-mending, but honestly, you really don't need to use it on a mend like this. Done and Done...and quite a tough patch for the Carhartts in my life.

Yep, I needed a sewing project that allowed for instant gratification. My birthday shopping provided just that: a quick and style'n baby/mama blanket. I picked a beautiful top fabric with a super soft, dark blue minky backing. A quick sewing fix it was at that too. Cut to size, right sides sewn together, turned, carefully ironed and then machine quilted inside the dark blue circles.

Easy Peasy.

Finn's Airplane Quilt

Remember the airplane quilt I made for Finn while I was pregnant? The little sleeper served as inspiration...and now, it actually fits him! I can't tell you how many times I would imagine taking this very photo when I was pregnant and hand stitching the airplanes on. Big sigh...

He is 13 weeks old now!

Made a Change

I made a big change last week...I surprised my family by chopping 9 whole inches off my hair! Although I loved my long hair, I did not love that the majority of the time it was spent up in a ponytail. I need style. I need funk. I need a mama doo that it not a mama doo. I can't say I am totally happy with the cut -my hairdresser took way too much off the bangs, but it'll grow. A change was needed, and a change it is.

Besides the mending pile I can not ignore any longer, I have Christmas and quilts on the brain. The fall rain was pitter-pattering the other day and I caved to my quilting desires...pouring another cup'o joe and placing some yummy charm quilt squares in a row.

Scary Spider Eggs...

I pulled this craft out of an old Martha Stewart Mag. There were no instructions, only photos and a few words: plastic spiders, sheer white stocking, batting and foam insulation. I took it from there and hoped for the best. The girls and I couldn't find sheer white stockings, so we went with child's size white tights. Found foam balls, plastic spider rings and spiderweb at a dollar store.

The spider rings were not my first choice, but had no other options. After constructing the egg sacs, I would advise using rings... funny how that goes. I found the rings were perfect after cutting the ring part down to little stubs -giving you something to push into the foam balls. I used a bit of batting to give the egg shape above the foam ball. Finishing touch: spider webs (check this out for a word of caution on the spider webs and poor lady bugs)

This Halloween craft is kind of a "just go for it" project, every egg is different and perfect in it's own right.

Balloon Pumpkins...

Oh man, these were so much fun! I think the best part of carving pumpkins is designing the carving...and with actual pumpkins, you get to design one or two of them and then you're done. With the balloons, you can just keep on going! So simple, yet tons of fun and great for the little hands that can't carve a real pumpkin.

Revisiting a Revisited Felt Bat & Mummy Man

Oh boy do I have an itch to sew! And nope, that pile of quilting fabric I spoke of last week never budged, my sewing machine still sits covered.

I can say that I am beginning to find my way as the mother to a family of six. School schedules and early mornings are taking shape and Finn is now starting to hang out (awake) a bit longer in his swing or on his play mat. With these small pockets of space opening to me, I am slowing playing catch up on some house chores and other important things. Finn's evening and night schedule is becoming more routine and I am remembering all the late night sewing I did when Roxie was a baby...Ah yes, that's how I did it back then.

October is a great time for crafting. For me, the month kicks off the colder months of when I seem to have more time to play in the sewing room. Halloween usually always call for some sort of handcraft and Christmas is right around the corner. Since my crafting mojo has been low lately, I am going to post again about the felted Halloween bats and mummy man. Both of these projects are quite popular and simple....

Fall of '03, Felt bat. Pretty simple, just cut out the shape of your bat,blanket stitch around edges, stuff with stuffing, and then glue on the eyes. Don't forget to add ribbon to the top for hanging. This is the perfect project for older kids, blanket stitch is a great starting point for beginning crafters. I was pregnant with Roxie when I made this. I had such creative juices flowing at that time. I made one for each of my daycare kids, about ten bats.

Fall '03 the Mummy Man! While I was stitching up the felt bats, my Mom was busy making her "Mummy Man". If I remember right, she found the idea on PBS. He is made from a turned out sock, sham cloth, buttons, yarn, stuffing, embroidery thread, and a bit of white out and ink pen for the mouth. No real rules, just have fun with it!

This may not seem like that big of an accomplishment, but really -it is. I stacked up some fabric for my next quilt. Amazing...right? Take into account that I am still trying to find my groove with school back in session, me back to work (which I do from home) and also having the cutest little snuggle monkey to keep my hands extra busy.

Maybe, just maybe, tomorrow the stack will make the big move over to the cutting table. I'll keep you posted.

All Wrapped Up...

Can you blame me for being absent from this space? I mean really, my hands and heart are completely wrapped up with this little snugglebug. Who, by the way, is a month old today!

With school starting tomorrow, our lazy mornings are over. I am not ready for this shift, the early mornings that is. I am, however, ready for the fall season...the apple picking, garden harvesting, corn chowder, pumpkins, changing colors and most of all -the cozy evenings together as a family. (funny how I just rambled off much to do about food) Did I mention sewing and pumpkin spiced mochas?

Mmmm...pumpkin spiced mochas...truly marks the changing season for me. And look what I found on a recent family hike in the hills...changing colors!!!

Perhaps I am ready for this shift of schedule after-all.

Outside my window...cloudy, almost has that "Fall Feeling" in the air.

I am thinking...did I brush my teeth this morning?

I am thankful for...a gentle and fast childbirth, my beautiful baby boy.

From the learning rooms...trying to be patient with myself, its OK not to be productive all the time.

From the kitchen...veggie packed spaghetti sauce in the crock pot for dinner, 4 loaves of zuchinni bread baking in the oven...yum.

I am wearing...black cami = easy nursing.

I am creating...a new schedule.

I am going...to plan something fun for the family this weekend -not sure what that is yet.

I am reading...reading? At the most that consists of quilt book gazing.

I am hoping...I am not too lost when my husband leaves town for 10 days next week -not looking forward to it.

I am hearing...my youngest daughter complain about finishing her lunch.

Around the house...trying not to get discouraged that I can't keep up after having a baby -yep, I know that's how it goes.

One of my favorite things...watching my baby Finn nurse -he melts my heart!

A few plans for the rest of the week...keeping plans to a minimum and allowing for lots of rest and to-do lists that are achievable.

My Boy Finn!!!

August 2nd at 9:59pm, after an extremely short labor, our handsome Mr. Finn Eric arrived! Weighing in at 7lbs 13oz and 20 1/2in long, this little line-backer has us all a'smitten. We are home now, enjoying this precious little boy who has changed our lives forever. We feel so very blessed.

Outside my window...the sun is shining, already hot out there.

I am thinking...I wanna sew a summer quilt.

I am thankful for...my beautiful daughters, no matter how trying they are at times.

From the learning rooms...I may be home-schooling my 6 year old this fall.

From the kitchen...I am craving baked goods - but not enough to actually bake them in this heat. Opted for a banana nut muffin and tea.

I am wearing...still in jammies, black cami that does not fit over my almost 39(!) week prego belly. Barefoot (always).

I am creating...head space for my upcoming childbirth.

I am going...for a long walk today, in hopes of helping my body out a bit.

I am reading...gazing really, at The Gentle Art of Quilt Making, by Jane Brocket.

I am hoping...for a gentle journey with my son during childbirth.

I am hearing...Supertramp - Even in the Quietest Moments.

Around the house...I am enjoying a finished remodel. Such satisfaction after so much hard work.

One of my favorite things...when my husband surprises me. Its a rare occurrence, but I do love it.

Waiting Pattern...

Yep...thats what we're in, a waiting pattern. Anytime now and we'll get to meet the little boy who will change our lives forever. I have all the chores I can realistically get done (including the remodel!), bag packed and house stocked with groceries for the older kids while I'm gone. Getting ready for a bit more Finn sewing while I wait...I'll keep you posted!

Hip Messenger Bag...

Using Lotta Jansdotter's Simple Sewing for Baby, I whipped out this hip messenger styled diaper bag for my little boy, Finn Eric. Its lined with two big pockets inside and out. I opted for a big black button as a closure. Little bit of wonder under for the letters, followed by stitching, as I know it will be thrown in for a wash.

Finn is working his way to being born. This morning I measured almost 4cm dilated and 70% effaced. Just letting my body do its thing...and getting very excited! Trying to stay rested (yeah right) and finish a few projects in the sewing room...and move into the new family room. Like I said, stay rested? That's for when I have my little boy in my arms.

Following along with Beauty that Moves and The Simple Woman's Daybook. What a brilliant yet simple pleasure! I am thinking Mondays, or perhaps Sundays, would be a good habit to make of this, but I feel like doing it now - a way to clear my head.

Outside my window...there is a breeze blowing through, moving the curtains just so.

I am thinking...I may go into labor soon, every hour is an hour closer to meeting my son.

I am thankful for...my wonderful husband, who works so hard for me.

From the learning rooms...patience, patience is always a lesson it seems.

From the kitchen...Artichokes, grilled beef kabobs and orange cake -prepared by two of my lovely daughters.

I am wearing...still in my painting shorts from this morning, white tank top that doesn't fit over my 37.5 week prego belly, barefoot.

I am creating...A space for my children and new baby boy.

I am going...into my sewing studio to whip up some gauzy little blankets for Baby Finn.

I am reading...Hobby Farms: Pigs. I want to start raising pigs this coming spring.

I am hoping...for a gentle journey with my son during childbirth.

A Nursing Cover...

I haven't been sewing like I would love to, but busy "taking it easy" so I wouldn't head into labor too early. Well, now that the scary part is over (37 weeks tomorrow!) I can go back to my normal late pregnancy routine...lots of walking and nesting + sewing!

Excited to feel those contractions and meet my little boy -but all in good time.

I do have a bit of sewing I can share from a few weeks ago: A nursing cover. I had made two other covers back in March for my good friend Ginger. I loved the bird fabric and decided to use it for my nursing cover as well. The reversible design is the same, except I added a bit of terry to each of the bottom corners.

I used up every scrap of fabric leftover to make this changing pad - burp cloth - dish towel...so many uses really. I was just going to put it in my scrap bin where it would live for who knows how long, but decided to piece together something that would actually get some use. With the terry backing, it would make a really good dish drain towel for when the dishes overflow'ith.

A few more items ready for Finn...A changing pad for the diaper bag, fun receiving blankets and also, from the leftover receiving blanket flannel, -washcloths with a terry backing. We plan to use cloth diapers, so cloth wipes seemed only natural. Plus -you can never have too many good wash "rags" with babes and toddlers.

"4th of July" Sewing

I spent the past weekend playing in my sewing room...and I very much needed that. I have already told you about the bumper issue, that was Friday night. After a trip to the fabric store, I have definitely decided to cut it up and make a quilt. A green and cream quilt that Ausha designed on the computer -it's not a new design by any means, but one I love!

I am thinking that I may not have the time to assemble a complete quilt this fall, but I should probably have some sort of crafting on hand. A few quilts to hand-stitch in my "go-bag" is a good idea. Sewing makes my heart happy...I can't go very long without crafting of some sort. (my husband will vouch for me on that one...no sewing = grumpy me)

Saturday was spent working on the wall hanging for above Finn's crib. Oh I so enjoyed that project! I have a bit of detailing on the mama and baby whale before I can show and tell, but as soon as I hit "publish" here, I am back to it...

Now for yesterday's project...Roxie's "4th of July" skirt. As I was sitting in the OB waiting room a few weeks ago, I spied the above article in a BabyTalk magazine. The skirt is from "Rock Your Baby" and I knew as soon as I saw it, I had to make one. Adorable!

This afternoon I took the girls to the park for skirt photos...there were so many fun shots, I kept almost all of them! You can view the whole set here...

How It Went...Making a Crib Bumper

Oh yah, no back panel slats...

Yah so...I spent my evening last night making a crib bumper for Finn's crib. It was only after I was dong the last finish work that I remembered -Finn's crib has a solid back panel...no slats to tie to in the back! Hum...I could remove the back ties and do some sort of Velcro stick-ums on the back of the crib/bumper. But really, I am thinking it will get cut up and made into a quilt of some sort. I do love the bumper fabric with his crib...

Gearing up...

All my time has been eaten up with our remodel work...so happy to have the majority of the work complete! With that behind us, I rewarded myself with finally setting up Finn's crib and...I am gearing up for a weekend full of sewing...happy day! I need to clean up my sewing studio, but hey -I've got big plans in there!

Lance is headed to Arkansas for his Grand-Dad's funeral and won't be home until next week. Which means I have the 4th of July weekend to spend with just me and my girls. Yes, sewing is on the agenda...with lots of ice-cream breaks, ice-tea (the prenatal type) and the smell of starch.

In the Mail...

Jane Brocket's new quilt book came in the mail today...like I really needed more motivation to help me get this remodel done. It was almost like a reward today for finishing up the hard part of the remodel: texturing and priming walls ~ DONE! Tomorrow I will be painting yummy rich color...my favorite part of it all!

I have flipped through the book and, although I do have quite a list of sewing to do for Finn, I am doing my best to keep my quilt-crazy mind at bay. So much inspiration! I would have to say the Green Green Grass of Home is my favorite right now. (bottom photo) It just looks like summer to me. Summer, strawberries and grass....

Not Happening...

No Finn sewing happening this week, but lots of progress on the family room remodel! Getting so close to painting rich color and then filling the space with my family. Finally unpacking from the move a year ago!

Don't get me wrong, sewing is not very far from my mind right now ~ or ever really. I did buy some great flannel to make little boy receiving blankets and terry for washcloths...and I want to rework the wall hanging...
